Unexpected average calculation results when using Dimension To Account with operation "AVERAGE excl. 0, NULL" with different date hierarchy levels in the story.

SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise)

1. Login to SAC.
2. Create a story.
3. Insert a chart e.g. Line chart.
4. Create a calculation: Dimension to Account.
5. Select Result Aggregation Operation: AVERAGE excl. 0, NULL.
6. Select this calculation as Left Y-Axis.
7. Select for dimension the Date hierarchy.
8. Check the chart values e.g.:
   • if the "Date" hierarchy level will be Level 2 (Year = 2023) => the average of the value showed in the Line chart will be e.g. 12.7
   • if the "Date" hierarchy" level will be Level 3 (Quarters = Q3, Q4) => the average of the value showed in the Line chart will be e.g. Q3 = 12.0; Q4 = 11.8.
9. If we calculate the average of the Q3 = 12.0; Q4 = 11.8 via Excel or Windows calculator, it will be 11.9! So the chart calculation 12.7 for the Level 2 (Year = 2023) is not matching and will be confusing for the user.

• Correct product behavior.
• The average is calculated at the individual hierarchy level separately based on the combination of records at that particular level (Year, month or quarter).
• This can cause, that these combinations of the records will provide confusing result.
• This product behavior follows a calculation logic which is used not just in SAC, but the same results will the user get e.g. in MS Excel, too.

Create an AVERAGE aggregation with the "Dimension to Account" calculation and "Date" dimension.
