Symptom

Error AA478 - "Posting transaction is not possible (value date not allowed)" is displayed for an asset with partial retirement already posted.

Environment

  • SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. A partial retirement has been posted to the sample asset, for example with date 10.04.2024.
  2. Try post another partial retirement with a date earlier, for example 07.04.2024, error AA478 is displayed rejecting this posting.

Cause

This is from standard system design. The system will update field 'Value date of last retirement for the depreciation area' with the last retirement posting date.
Since a posting with an earlier date could make the proportional asset values for last asset retirement incorrect, the system rejects such postings with error AA478.

Resolution

  1. Post with a later posting date (in this sample, with a date later than 10.04.2024)        or
  2. Reverse last retirement posting
