3501300 - How To Add Parent Units to an Organizational Unit Through Data Import and Export Tool?

• You want to know how to add parent units to an organizational unit using data import and export tool.
• You face an error to import Organizational Unit and Parent Units via Data Import & Export tool: parentOrganizationalUnitAssignments/parentOrganizationalUnitDisplayId The provided foreign key attribute XYZ does not exist.

1. Navigate to Settings.
2. Go to Data Import and Export view.
3. Select Import → Create.
4. Select Organizational Unit entity.
5. Leave Complete entity marked if necessary.
6. Select file type.
7. Upload affected file.
8. Click on import data button.

This error occurs because the org unit XYZ is not created in the system yet. It's necessary to create this organizational unit first, and then you can use the Update method to add the parent unit. 

After organizational unit XYZ is created, you can check the below steps for reference on how to add a parent unit to an existing organizational unit:

1. Go to Data Import & Export screen.
2. Click on Export button.
3. Select Organizational Unit.
4. Leave selected the Complete Entity checkbox.
5. Select the file type.
6. Filter by the Org unit ID that you want to add the parent unit.
7. Click on Export data button.
8. Open the main file Organizational_Unit that you exported.
9. Copy the technical ID field value.
10. Open the Organizational_Unit_Parent_Units file.
11. Add the Parent_Technical_Key in the Organizational_Unit_Parent_Units which is the Technical ID from the Org Unit in the Organizational_Unit main file you copied.
12. Fill a value for the Parent Unit ID field.
13. Save the file. Make sure all files you exported are in a zip file.
14. Click on Import → Update
15. Select Organizational unit entity.
16. Ignore blank values.
17. Set type as the one you exported.
18. Upload the zip file.
19. Click on import data.
