Symptom

  • An IDENTITY column shows a large gap in values starting with the first insert after a reboot following a polite shutdown.
  • The reboot was NOT following an abrupt shutdown (shutdown with nowait, crash, power failure, etc.)
  • The database was not recently LOADed from a dump archive.
