3502786 - WebDriver Check Failed to ping Runner - Chrome browser crash on Linux - SAP Cloud ALM

Symptom

  • Try to create a runner for the Synthetic User Monitoring (SUM)
  • The runner infrastructure runs on Linux
  • The test connection failed on step 3 with this message:
    WebDriver Check
Failed to ping Runner : timeout has been reached

  • In Selenium log from Linux system using Chrome browser, find the message:
13:59:20.705 WARN [DriverServiceSessionFactory.apply] - Error while creating session with the driver service. Stopping driver service: Could not start a new session. Response code 500. Message: unknown error: Chrome failed to start: exited abnormally.

(unknown error: DevToolsActivePort file doesn't exist)
(The process started from chrome location /usr/bin/google-chrome is no longer running, so ChromeDriver is assuming that Chrome has crashed.)

Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental
