3503226 - Error "Couldn't import object 'XXX' : this is undefined" while importing package in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)

Symptom

  • Error when importing package: Error "Couldn't import object 'XXX' : this is undefined".
  • The object mentioned in the error cannot be found in the source system.
  • However the object is added automatically as a story dependency when exporting the package from the source system.

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud Enterprise (2024.8.20)

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Login to SAC source system.
  2. Go to Transport>Export>Content Network Storage.
  3. Export story with all its dependencies.
  4. Login to SAC target system.
  5. Go to Transport>Import>Content Network Storage.
  6. Import package.
  7. Import fails with error message: "Couldn't import object 'XXX' : this is undefined"

Cause

The Model is based on a Dataset, but the underlying Dataset does not exist in the target system, or was not imported first.

Resolution

  • Select the "Data" checkbox when exporting and importing the package.
  • The "Data" checkbox should always be selected for a model based on a dataset.
