3503611 - Error: "A user with the same ID ... already exists" in Employee Data Replication

Symptom

  • The replication of Employee data from SuccessFactors does not work as expected.
  • This happens e.g. in a 'test to test' scenario (SAP Business ByDesign test system & SuccessFactors Employee Central test system) where no productive data shall be used in any way.
  • When attempting to replicate data, error "A user with the same ID ABC already exists" appears (where ABC represents an Employee ID).
  • The issue occurs during the second stage of the replication process, where data is supposed to replicate internally from a staging area to the internal HCM module.
  • The error prevents the successful testing of updates

Environment

  • SAP Business ByDesign 
  • SuccessFactors Employee Central

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Navigate to Master Data Replication work center.
  2. Select Employee List view.
  3. Choose Show Failed.
  4. Observe the error message: "A user with the same ID ABC already exists" 

Cause

The configuration of the Maintain Business Partner Mapping is not correctly set up for all the employees in the phased approach of integration.

Resolution

    There are three options to Maintain Business Partner Mapping in this scenario:

    1. Via Manual Mapping: Go to Master Data Replication work center > Select Employee Central Pre-Integration Tasks view > Select Maintain Business Partner Mapping > Click Go >  Enter SF_EC_INTEGRATION- as System Instance ID and press Go > Search for the affected employee > Maintain the SuccessFactors Employee Central Business Partner ID in the External Business Partner ID field against the employee > Save > Then try to replicate the employee.
    2. Via Propose Mapping: See section 5 of SAP help document:  Maintain Business Partner Mapping. Note: The system proposes the corresponding External Business Partner ID of all the employees based on their name and date of birth. If Manual Mapping was already maintained previously, then Propose Mappingwill clear existing mapping.
    3. Via Microsoft Excel: Check help document: Maintain ID Mapping.
