Symptom
When attempting to create a conversion measure of type Unit, an error similar to the following is seen:
Environment
SAP Analytics Cloud QRC 3 2024 revision and higher
Reproducing the Issue
- Open a model that supports measures in SAP Analytics Cloud.
- Create a measure of type Unit.
- Enter a fixed source value from the drop down list. e.g. KM
- Open the Calculation Workspace and create a Conversion measure of type Unit.
- Select the source measure and choose a target unit that the source should be converted to.
- The error "Could not convert unit from 'KM' to '<target unit> ' for measure '<conversion measure name>.'"
Cause
The target measure is not part of the same unit group as the source.
Resolution
In order to successfully convert a source unit to a target unit, the units must belong to the same unit group within the Standard Unit Table.
The Standard Unit Conversion table may be opened from the Conversion tab of the modeler and used as a reference. Search and filter on Unit ID, Symbol and Group columns to ensure that the target unit exists in the same group as the source.
