3507321 - Employment Validity Check for Project Roles

Symptom

Customer has found that the employment validity check for project roles has been changed and they would like to know how the validity will be checked based on the date.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Plan Customer Projects app.
  2. Add a role and a resource to the project.

Cause

Employment of an employee who is assigned to a SAP delivered role in a professional services project should overlap at-least by one day with the project duration. This is an existing behavior for Project Manager role. 

Starting at the 2408 release, this functionality was enhanced and extended to other SAP delivered roles - like Project Controller, Project Accountant and Project Partner.

Resolution

The Validity Check works the following way:

  • If a project duration is from 01.08.2024 to 31.03.2025, and employee ABCD* with employment ID 1234* is valid from 01.01.2024 to 02.08.2024:
    • Here in this example, this employment ID is valid to be assigned to project roles as there are 2 days which are overlapping within the project duration.

  • If a project duration is from 01.08.2024 to 31.03.2025, and employee EFGH* with employment ID 5678* is valid from 01.01.2024 to 30.06.2024:
    • Here in this example, this employment ID is not valid to be assigned to roles within the sample project as there are no overlapping days within the project duration.

*Where employee ABCD & EFGH are external employee IDs and 1234 & 5678 are the internal IDs of two employees.
