Symptom
When entering numerical distribution values in a Calibration session template, receive an error:
The sum of the distribution must equal the total number.
Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.
Environment
- SAP SuccessFactors Calibration
- SAP SuccessFactors Performance Management
Reproducing the Issue
- Navigate to Admin Center > Manage Calibration Templates
- Select a template
- Select the Data tab
- In the Performance section, select one of the rating options
- Expand Set Numerical Distribution (optional)
- Enter values and receive the error
Cause
The sum of the Number distribution fields is lower than the value in the Total Number field
Resolution
By system design, the sum of all numbers within the guideline distribution must equal the value in the Total Number field. For example:
From the above picture, the total of the number fields is 7:
| Distribution Name | Number Field |
| Not Achieved | 3 |
| Partially Achieved | 1 |
| Exactly Achieved | 1 |
| Partially Exceeded | 1 |
| Sustainable Exceeded | 1 |
The total of the distribution (7) does not match the value in the Total Number field (5). To resolve this error, you can:
- Change the value in the Total Number field to equal the sum of the distribution values
- Adjust the sum of the distribution values to match the Total Number field
