3508270 - Wrong Segment Derivation for Sales Order Item

• For sales order item XYZ-XX profit center ABC is derived which is also defined as segment (XYZ-XX represents a sales order item ID, ABC represents a profit center and segment ID).
• However, the assigned segment is not ABC but DEF (DEF represents a segment ID). 

SAP Business ByDesign

1. In the Cost and Revenue work center go to the Sales Document Items view. 
2. Find sales order item XYZ-XX. 
3. In the Datails section underneath the table go to the General tab and check the Organizational Data. 
4. Here, org unit ABC is assigned as profit center. 
5. You expect org unit ABC to be assigned as segment as well. However, segment DEF is assigned. 

Org unit ABC is not valid as segment on the sales order item's posting date. Therefore it could not be derived automatically from the profit center. 

To verify: 

Check the sales order item's posting date: 

1. In the Cost and Revenue work center go to the Sales Document Items view. 
2. Find sales order item XYZ-XX. 
3. In the Details section underneath the table go to the Dates tab.
4. Take note of the Source Document Item Date (which is the item's posting date), for example 02.02.YYYY. 

To check the segment validity of org unit ABC: 

1. In the Organizational Management work center go the Org Structures view. 
2. Find org unit ABC and select it. 
3. In the Details section underneath the structure go to the Time Lines tab. 
4. Under Managerial- Segment you can see the Valid From date is after the sales order item's posting date, for example 05.05.YYYY.

When the sales order item's posting date is before the segment validity start date, the segment cannot be derived automatically from the profit center. 

You can trigger the correct segment derivation with a dummy change by reassigning profit center ABC: 

1. In the Cost and Revenue work center go to the Sales Document Items view. 
2. Find sales order item XYZ-XX. 
3. Press Reassign and select Profit Center. 
4. Select profit center ABC. 
5. Press OK. 
6. In the General tab check the Organizational Data section: This time, org unit ABC is now also assigned as Segment.
