When creating a handling unit with a specific SSCC number, the system is generating an error message stating: "Identification ******************* does not match the specifications in Customizing."

2. Begin the process to create a new handling unit.
3. Specify an HU number such as *******************.
4. The following error message appears: "Identification ******************* does not match the specifications in Customizing."

The SSCC determination rules are not clear, resulting in an incorrect identification being provided.

In configuration activity 103441 Maintain SSCC Generation for each Plant/Storage Location, you can define how to generate Serial Shipping Container Codes (SSCCs) for your plants and storage locations. 

Use

You can define an SSCC using a GS1 company prefix and a number from the number range assigned. The total length of these two numbers must be 17 characters. The system adds a check digit so that the SSCC is in total 18 characters long.

The first digit of the SSCC is the extension digit. You can define whether this extension digit should be the first digit of the GS1 company prefix or the first digit of the serial number (controlled by the indicator Begins with GS1). Note that if your SSCC does not begin with the GS1 company prefix, you need to make sure that the first digit of the internal number range is not zero.

Recommendation

If your organization creates a high volume of handling units on a yearly basis, it is recommended to use one GS1 company prefix per plant in order to avoid number scarcity. In particular, if you have several plants and each plant creates handling units at the same time, problems may occur during number assignment if you only use one GS1 company prefix.

Prerequisites

For the assignment in this configuration activity, SAP delivers internal and external number range internals for the number range object /SCWM/SSCC. In the configuration activity Define Number Range Intervals for SSCC, you can check whether these delivered number ranges fulfill your business needs and adjust them if necessary. Note, however, that only one internal and one external number range can be actively used at the same time.

If you want to use other number range objects than /SCWM/SSCC, you need to define them by using Developer Extensibility capabilities. This may be necessary, for example, if you want to use different number range intervals per plant. You can define number range intervals for your own number range object using the Fiori app Manage Number Range Intervals.

Activities

1. Enter the plant and storage location the SSCC should be valid for. If you want to use the same GS1 company prefix for all plants or storage locations, leave the corresponding field empty. Such an entry is also required for the creation of empty handling units.
   You can assign multiple GS1 company prefixes to one organizational unit by numbering the GS1 company prefixes. If the first GS1 prefix is used up, the system automatically takes the next prefix in ascending order.
2. Specify the GS1 company prefix. You can add prefixes or suffixes to the GS1 prefix.
3. Optional: Select a custom number range object instead of /SCWM/SSCC.
4. Specify the number range intervals for either the internal or external number range assignment, or for both.
5. You can deactivate the use of an entry by choosing Do Not Use.
   If all numbers of a number range with an internal number assignment are used, the system automatically selects the Do Not Use checkbox and begins to use the next GS1 company prefix. You can deselect this checkbox to use the company prefix again.
6. Select whether SSCCs begin with the GS1 company prefix.

Example

For plant 1010, storage location 101H, you entered a GS1 company prefix of 87654321. You are using the internal number range interval 01 from the number range object /SCWM/SSCC. This generates the serial number 123456789.

If "Begins with GS1" is set, the generated SSCC is 876543211234567899

If "Begins with GS1" is not set, the generated SSCC is 187654321234567897

The last digit is the check digit, which is calculated and added automatically.
