Symptom
The Processing Status of a Project is 'Created' rather than 'Released', but it is still possible to manage and update the project's Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) with a purchase requisition or purchase order.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Check Project processing status (created) for Project 1234* in Project Control - Enterprise Projects app.
- Create Purchase requisition using app "Create Purchase Requisition - Advanced" app.
*Where 1234 is an enterprise project.
Cause
The system allows the creation of Purchase Requisitions / Purchase Orders even if the project is not released.
Resolution
- Commitment costs for the project can come from either a "Purchase Requisition" (PR) or a "Purchase Order" (PO) when the project status is in "Created" status.
- Commitment postings can also be created against the project in "Created" status.
- PRs and POs can be released manually or by workflow, but the Goods Receipt or Service Entry Sheet cannot be generated until the WBS or Project is released, which will release all the WBS underneath it.
- Similarly, Sales Orders and Sales Order Invoices can be created, and billing requests can be created against the billing WBS, but the invoice or delivery note cannot be generated until the WBS is released.
