  • It may be necessary to plan or schedule execution times of Data Flows, Replication Flows or Task Chains etc outside of these planned maintenance windows to avoid errors during the execution of the flows.

Environment

SAP Datasphere

Resolution

  1. Is it possible to adjust/change maintenance window of SAP Datasphere?
A: Maintenance window dates and times are contractually fixed and cannot be changed.

  2. Is it possible to request individual updates for specific customer tenants?
A: No, Datasphere's microservices are upgraded once for all tenants in a landscape. Therefore it is not possible to perform/request a tenant specific upgrade.

  3. How much downtime should be planned for?
A: Refer to Maintenance Windows and Major Upgrade Windows for SAP Cloud Services for up to date details on this. The time duration is also documented here and is in the range of 3-4 hours. However, the experienced downtime depends on the type of maintenance activity performed in tenant and may be much shorter in duration than the 3-4 hours.

  4. What should be known about times and timezones?
A: All times are specified in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
For example, if your SAP Datasphere tenant is located in the APJ Datacenter, the planned time is Saturday at 3pm UTC for 3 hours - this equates to 11pm Beijing time.
To verify specific timings, UTC time converters can be found via any internet search engine.

  5. Can Maintenance Windows of other components also impact on Datasphere availability?
A: Yes, in a Datasphere's HANA Cloud upgrade the tenant would be unavailable, while other activities should be downtime-free.
Datasphere's HANA Cloud upgrade is performed during Datasphere's Maintenance Window, not in HC Major Upgrade. Refer to SAP Datasphere's Maintenance Window details as it relies on other SAP Cloud services in addition:
    (1) These Major Upgrade Windows are separate from and in addition to Major Upgrade Windows of underlying SAP Business Technology Platform.
    (2) These Maintenance Windows are separate from and in addition to Maintenance Windows of underlying SAP HANA Cloud.
    (3) These Maintenance Windows are separate from and in addition to Maintenance Windows of underlying SAP Data Intelligence.

  6. Is this Maintenance Window the same as the Datasphere Wave deployments?
A: No. Wave delivery is usually performed during the week in fixed dates, as per SAP Note 2984828 SAP Datasphere Release & Delivery Schedule.
Important to highlight: Datasphere Wave deployment is downtime-free.

  7. What is SAP's recommendation for job scheduling during Maintenance windows and Datasphere Wave deployment time periods?
A: The recommendation is to schedule your mission critical Task Chain jobs, Replication Flows etc to run outside of the known maintenance windows.
