3513187 - Wrong color is displayed in the variance bar chart in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)

Symptom

  • Variance bar in widget is showing incorrect colors. Positive variances are shown in red and negative ones are shown in green, even though the variance has been configured to show positive variances in green and negative variances in red.
  • Issue only happen to a specific account in the story.

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise) 2024.15.6

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Login to SAC.
  2. Open story.
  3. Select the specific account in the input control, notice that in the variance, the positive value is displayed in red color, in settings, the positive values should be displayed in green.
  4. For the other accounts, it is displayed as expected.

Cause

The account type is EXP, the chart has been configured with a Variance comparing Actual to Budget calculated as (Actual - Budget).

In a scenario where the actual is less than the budget, this would be a desired Decrease (-) in expense, rendering the variance bar as Green.

However, if the actual is greater than the budget, this is an undesired Increase (+) in expenditure, rendering the variance bar as red.

Resolution

Workaround 1:
In the Edit Variance panel where define the Variance, near the bottom, there is an option (Invert Colors) to swap the default colors around.

Workaround 2:
Use the option to customize the Positive, Negative and Null/0 values. This can also be found in the Edit Variance panel.
