3515778 - Error "This WBS element cannot be assigned" during WBS Element Assignment in a Sales Order in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

• When attempting to input the WBS element at the line item level in a Sales Order, the system produces an error message stating, "This WBS element cannot be assigned."
• The issue is specific to a certain user ID and does not occur when using other user IDs.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Navigate to Sales Order and enter Order type as OR.
  2. Input the relevant values for sales organization, Distribution Channel, Division, Sales Office and Sales Group.
  3. Enter relevant values in both Sold to party and ship to party fields.
  4. Input Customer Reference and Date.
  5. Enter Payment Terms.
  6. Enter the item level data such as material, plant, WBS, and Amount (Any).
  7. Press Enter. 
  8. Error "This WBS element cannot be assigned" is raised.

Cause

Missing authorizations.

Resolution

  • When trying to assign a WBS element the system checks whether the user has the authorization to display projects.
  • Align with the basis consultant to ensure that the users have the relevant project authorizations setup to access the relevant projects.
  • For example catalog SAP_PS_BC_FIN_CONTRL_MC will provide display authorization, which can be found in project-related business roles such as BR_PROJ_FIN_CONTROLLER.
