3517354 - How is the Person Responsible Derived for an Intercompany Project?

Symptom

The Person Responsible/ Project Manager for the intercompany project ICPXYZ is employee ABC. You wonder why this employee is assigned as the project's project manager (ICPXYZ represents an intercompany project ID; ABC represents an employee ID/name) as the user neither created the connected sales order, nor the initial purchase order.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In the Project Management work center go to the Project view. 
  2. Find project ICPXYZ in the table.
  3. Underneath, in the Details section you notice employee ABC appearing in the Person Responsible field. 

Cause

The intercompany project's person responsible is always the reporting line manager of the intercompany sales order's Employee Responsible derived from the purchase order's Buyer Responsible.

Resolution

To identify the intercompany project's sales order

  1. open the project and go to the Sales Tracking tab. 
  2. Click on the sales order ID. 
  3. On the very top of the sales order you notice the Employee Responsible field where employee ABC appears. 

To identify the Buyer Responsible of the  initial Purchase Order: 

  1. In the sales order press View All and go to the Document flow tab. 
  2. Take note of the Purchase Order DEF (DEF represents the purchase order ID). 
  3. Go to the Purchase Requests and Orders work center and here navigate to the Purchase Orders view. 
  4. Find and open purchase order DEF. 
  5. Here, under General Information (Overview or General tab) you'll find employee DEF entered as Buyer Responsible. 

To identify the responsible buyer's reporting line manager

  1. In the Buyer Responsible field click on employee DEF.
  2. In the next screen, under Organizational data find the Reports To field. Here, employee ABC is maintained.
