Resolution

      1. What is a restore point?

  1. A restore point is a full copy of a tenant. It is a snapshot of the tenant’s data at a specific point in time. Before performing data migration processes or other necessary actions in an existing tenant, it can be requested as a fallback tenant.

          Restrictions of Restore point:

  • During the creation of a restore point, the source tenant must be down for at least four hours. Note that over and above, four-hour downtime is subject to the size of the source tenant and will be estimated while the request is being created.
  • The source tenant copy process can only be completed outside of the contractual maintenance time.
  • Any critical activity in the source tenant must be avoided while the restore point creation is in progress. This is required to provide a consistent recovery.
  • The restore point is invalid after the upgrade of the tenant. Hence, a reset to restore point procedure is not supported for such scenarios. That means that a restore point created shortly before an upgrade cannot be used for a reset to restore point after the upgrade.
  • The timing for the creation of restore points is critical as the restore point requires downtime from the source tenant.
  • The retention period of a restore point is, by default, 14 days. After the retention period, the restore point is deleted.
  • Once a restore point is taken, SAP Cloud Applications Studio deployment is blocked until
    1. The restore point expiry (after 14 days)
    2. The restore point is deleted before the expiration date
    3. A rollback to the restore point is applied
  • During restore point creation, any critical activity in the source system must be avoided; otherwise, the restore point cannot be used for complete recovery.

      2. How do I request a restore point?

  1. You can request a restore point from service control center, by following the below path:
  • Go to Service Control Center Work Center.
  • Go to System View.
  • Select the tenant URL for which you want to request a restore point.
  • Click Request Restore Point.

  1. You cannot request an extension of a restore point. The retention period of a restore point is 14 days. After this period, the restore point will be deleted.

      5. How many times can I use a restore point to reset my system?

  1. Once you make a request to reset your system to the available restore point and this request is fulfilled, the restore point is consumed. It cannot be used again for another reset request.
