Symptom
Error Message AR103 "Tax code 2 is longer than 11 characters" occurs when trying to maintain a VAT TAX Number for Tax category CH2 for SWITZERLAND.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- In app Maintain Business Partners
- Enter a customer number or create a customer
- use the Identification Tab
- Select CH2 category
- Enter for example, value CHE-123.456.789 MWST
- You get error AR103 "Tax code 2 is longer than 11 characters"
Cause
The format of the VAT number does not allow dots or other characters apart from numbers or letters
Field "Tax Number 2/ CH2" in customer/vendor is only used to store old VAT tax numbers. In the same way, tax category CH2 for business partners is only used to store old VAT tax numbers (It has a maximum capacity of 11 characters).
Resolution
The VAT number with whole format CHE-123.456.789 MWST must not be introduced in any field. However considering that the VAT number can be derived from the UID number, this UID Number is the only tax number that needs to be introduced. It must be added in "CH1" without any dash or points.
The 12 digits of CH1 are enough to maintain the UID. UID number needs to be maintained without any dashes or dots, where all the letters and number are together, for example CHE123456789.
You need to maintain the VAT Registration Number in the Business Partner as per the sample format below:
VAT Number: CHE123456789
This format is required to print Customer VAT Registration Number in UID format.
The sample UID print output format for the Customer VAT Registration Number in the Form Template is as follows:
CHE-123.456.789 xxxx
-
MWST : For Germany
-
TVA : For France
-
IVA : For Italy
This print format is applicable across all the form templates for Switzerland.
