The October release of Microsoft Office 2024 will disable the legacy software in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio client apps. Microsoft will begin turning off ActiveX controls in documents opened in Win32 Office desktop apps in October 2024, and will extend this to Microsoft 365 apps in April 2025. After this, existing ActiveX objects will be displayed as static images in Office documents. Microsoft has chosen to disable all legacy software in Windows apps and transfer it to 365 apps.
