3521869 - Error - "Parent installation point cannot be modified as child object(s) exists"

Error occurs when user tries to add a Registered Product or any service object as an Item in Functional Location.

SAP Sales Cloud and SAP Service Cloud Version 2

This error is applicable when any Service Object is added to a Functional Location. Below is a scenario where Registered Product is added to a Functional Location.

1. From the Navigation Menu, go to Functional Locations.
2. Open Function Location 123 (where 123 is the ID of Functional Location).
3. Under Item Hierarchy Tab, click on 'Add Existing Item' icon.
4. Set the filter to Registered Products and toggle the option to 'All Registered Products'.
5. Select a Registered Product/Search and add Registered Product 456 (where 456 is the ID of the Registered Product).
6. Click anywhere on screen to confirm the selection.

Notice that error occurs as - 'Parent installation point cannot be modified as child object(s) exists'.

The Registered Product has an item or multiple items under it. It is not possible to move a Registered Product ( or any service object) under a different parent if it has items existing below it.

This is the current designed behavior of the system. This check has been introduced to avoid inconsistencies in the hierarchy.
