3528606 - Encryption Root Key Backup Fails With Error: Root key backup passphrase not set

Symptom

You are trying to back up the root keys following Back Up Root Keys | SAP Help Portal and you are getting errors below:

  • When using SQL BACKUP ENCRYPTION ROOT KEYS, you get error:

    SAP DBTech JDBC: [447]: backup could not be completed: Root key backup error: Root key backup passphrase not set

  • When using SQL extraction function ENCRYPTION_ROOT_KEYS_EXTRACT_KEYS, you get error:

    SAP DBTech JDBC: [2]: general error: Root Key Backup Password is not set up: at "encryption_root_keys_extract_keys" function (at pos 7)

  • When using SQL extraction function ENCRYPTION_ROOT_KEYS_EXTRACT_ALL_KEYS_FOR_DATABASE, you get error:

    SAP DBTech JDBC: [2]: general error: Root Key Backup Password is not set up: at "encryption_root_keys_extract_all_keys_for_database" function (at pos 7)

  • When using HANA Cockpit, you get error:

    Set a password for the root key backup.
    SQL (2) - general error: Root Key Backup Password is not set up: at "encryption_root_keys_extract_keys" function (at pos 67)

  • When using hdbnsutil tool, you get error:

    Export of backup failed: Root key backup passphrase not set
    failed.
