3528650 - ILM enabled data archiving standard behavior

Symptom

This document aims to clarify system ILM rule engine behavior with regards to ILM enabled archiving process.

The ILM rule engine has different values for retention period ( expiration(expiration date and mandatory destruction date) based on the data object being archived.
Below are some of the archiving scenarios and the expiration date being set on the archive file(s):

  • Archiving with valid retention rules (finite retention time).
  • Archiving with “infinity” retention time.
  • Hierarchy trees in the ILM storage environment.
  • Convert ILM enabled ADK (with known expiration date) by using extended retention time.
  • Convert ILM enabled ADK (with unknown expiration date) by using finite retention time.
