- The following is a list of benefits of regularly purging older data:

Reduce the overall size of the database that helps in keeping the cost of storage low.

Reduce the size of the database speeds up backup, restore, and database maintenance jobs, such as updating statistics.

Reduce row counts in tables can speed up actions against tables, such as queries, inserts, updates, and deletes, resulting in improved system performance.
