3531851 - Error While Releasing Production Order Due to Existing Batch Number Error M7838

The following error occurs when trying to release a production order:

• Batch XXXXXXX for material XXXX in plant XXXX already exists
  Message no. M7838

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Go to 'Create Production Order' app
2. Click Release option
3. Error 'Release rejected (check log)' occurs
4. Check the log and the following error is displayed:
   Batch XXXXXXX for material XXXX in plant XXXX already exists
   Message no. M7838

The error is issued correctly as the batch already exist.

Check the existing batches for the material and plant in Manage Batches app. The system cannot create 2 batches with the same number.

It's possible to carry out the following actions:

• Display the list of existing batches for the material using the stock overview option.
• Display the data of batch 0000000541.
• If the existing batch and the new batch are to be managed separately, It's necessary to make a material-to-material transfer posting to transfer one of the two batches to a new batch number.

In the Configuration activity 'Define Batch Number Ranges' check the number range maintained. If necessary adjust the number range.
