3537769 - Custom Revenue Sources for Event-Based Revenue Recognition for assignment rules COSPTM and COSPTMWIP

It is possible to create custom sources in the configuration for Event-Based Revenue Recognition. These can then be used as revenue sources combined with the pre-delivered assignment rule.

Custom sources can be used if split recognized revenue by posting to different accounts is desired. To achieve this, ensure that the revenue accounts in the account determination in Sales are divided and then assigned to distinct custom sources in Event-Based Revenue Recognition.

Custom sources can be created only when SAP Central Business Configuration is used as the configuration environment. They can be used with the pre-delivered assignment rule alongside usage 100 (Revenue for Revenue Recognition Processing) to define specific posting rules.

Note: Custom sources are only suitable for the assignment rule COSPTM and COSPTMWIP, used for time and material scenarios. For other scenarios, the clearing logic for balance sheet items works only if unique accounts for deferred or accrued revenue are defined.

1. Creation of Custom Sources

In the Maintain Settings for Event-Based Revenue Recognition configuration activity, select Sources and then choose New Entries.

Enter new custom source and a short description. Custom source must start with the letter Z, for example, ZAAA. Save the new entry.

The content of custom sources can be maintained just as standard pre-delivered sources are maintained.

2. Assignment of Custom Source to Posting Rules

Within the same configuration activity, navigate to Assignment Rules. Here, choose the pre-delivered assignment rule (COSPTM) to which apply the new source.

Then, open Assign Sources and Posting Rules to add new entries for new custom source. 

For  new source, it need to create entries with the following usages:

• 100 (Revenue for Revenue Recognition Processing)
• 103 (Unbilled Revenue Processing) – An entry with this usage must be added only if the assignment rule contains a pre-delivered entry with the usage 103; otherwise, ignore it

The other usages are not supported for custom sources. 

Sequence numbers for the new entries must be set in the 1000 to 4999 range.

3. Deletion of Custom Sources

A custom source can be deleted only if there are no assignment rules that refer to the custom source. First, it need to delete such assignment rule entries.
