Symptom
- When attempting to set a Logistics Area to Obsolete, an error message is displayed: "Change logistics area status not possible; logistics area not empty".
- The Logistics Area contains Child Logistics Areas which are not all Obsolete.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Navigate to the Work centre Supply Chain Design Master Data.
- Select the Locations view.
- Select the relevant Site and expand.
- Select the relevant Location and click on Edit Layout.
- Select relevant Logistics Area.
- Click Change Status and select "Set to Obsolete".
- System return the error message: Change logistics area not possible; logistics area not empty.
- Expand the Logistics Area.
- Observe that the Logistics Area contains Child Logistics Areas which are not all Obsolete.
Cause
The error message is triggered not because the Logistics Area has inventory, but due to the fact that not all the underlying Logistics Areas are obsolete. The parent Logistics Area can only be marked as obsolete if all the underlying child Logistics Areas (that are Inventory-Managed) are obsolete.
Resolution
- Identify all the underlying Logistics Areas within the parent Logistics Area.
- Set each of these child Logistics Areas to Obsolete.
- Once all Inventory-Managed child Logistics Areas are set to Obsolete, the parent Logistics Area can then be set to Obsolete.
