Symptom
System crashes upon attempting to post payment allocation.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Navigate to the Payment Management work center.
- Open the Payment Allocation view.
- Find and open Payment Allocation XXX (XXX means the Payment Allocation ID).
- Notice that Open Amount is zero.
- Click the Post button.
- The system crashes.
Cause
One possible cause for the issue is the existence of duplicate exchange rate data sets having the same external key (Unit Currency, Quoted Currency, Quotation Date/Time). This should not occur and leads to inconsistencies in the system.
To confirm the cause, proceed as follows:
- Go to the General Ledger work center.
- Go to Common Tasks view -> Edit Exchange Rates.
- Click View Exchange Rate History button.
- Click 'Click here to execute the query'
- System will return at least one error as the one below:
"Data inconsistent - create case - internal key ABC"
ABC means the internal key.
Resolution
Open a case to SAP Support giving your permission to delete all exchange rates duplicate entries from backend system.
Once the entries are deleted, both issues will be resolved, meaning the errors in the Exchange Rate History view and the system crash upon posting payment allocation XXX.
