3549285 - DISK INIT fails with error 5123 - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • When executing the command DISK INIT it fails and error 5123 is returned to client:

    Msg 5123, Level 16, State 1:
    Server 'SID', Line 1:
    DISK INIT encountered an error while attempting to open/create the physical file for device ''devicepath/devicename.dat'.
    Consult the Adaptive Server error log for more details.
    For the Cluster Edition, check the error log of each instance. 

  • The ASE errorlog shows the following error messages linked to that:

    dcreate: insufficient space on device 'devicepath/devicename.dat'.
