- When exporting a Pie Chart data to CSV, the data and columns are misaligned in the generated CSV file.
- Issue occurs with all the delimiters, except: comma.
Environment
- SAP Analytics Clouds 2024.21.7
Reproducing the Issue
- In SAP Analytics Cloud, create a Story.
- Insert a Pie Chart.
- Export the Pie chart to CSV format, and select any delimiters, except Comma delimiter.
- When opening the generated CSV file in MS Excel, the data, and column headers are misaligned.
Cause
The generated CSV file does have the right delimiters information to display the data, but the headers and data re not aligned in MS Excel, because the CSV text file needs to be converted to Excel format.
Resolution
In MS Excel, to convert a CSV text file to MS Excel format, select the option "Text to column", and select the same delimiter used when exporting the Pie Chart to CSV format:
- In SAP Analytics Cloud, open your Story.
- Select a Pie Chart, and export it to CSV format with the desired delimiter, like: semicolumn ;
- In MS Excel, open the generated CSV text file.
- Select column "A" ( It will highlight the whole column )
- In MS Excel, under the menu "Data", select: "Text to columns"
- In Convert Text to Columns Wizard, ensure the option "Delimited" is select, and click "Next"
- In the next screen, select the Delimiters you used to export the Chart, for example: "Semicolumn", and click "Finish"
( Also, ensure you unselect the default Delimiter: Tab ) - Back to MS Excel spreadsheet, the data, and the headers will now be aligned.
