3553159 - Error Code 2 During SAP License Installation in SWPM: Hardware Key Not Retrieved

Symptom

During the execution of SWPM (Software Provisioning Manager) for SAP NetWeaver 7.5 on HANA Database in a distributed environment, the following error occurs at 75% completion:

  • Error:

    Process call '/usr/sap/ABC/SYS/exe/uc/linuxx86_64/saplikey pf=/sapmnt/ABC/profile/ABC_D00_sapb1ppas00 -install_first_temp J1744099691 XXXXXX' exits with error code 2. For details see log file(s) saplikey.log, dev_slic

  • The saplikey.log shows the following:

    E 21 likey_admin_clt: Error getting the hardware key. You might find some information in file "dev_hwid". E 11 likey_admin_clt: Error getting the hardware key. You might find some information in file "dev_ms" on the message server.

  • Additionally, dev_hwid log contains:

    *** ERROR => no instanceId found [virtinfoxx.c 921]
