Symptom
- The memo line and the reference document number in the journal entry contains special characters such as "/" and "-".
- The interpretation algorithm 001 - Standard Algorithm does not clear the bank statement even though the contents are same in the memo line and reference document number.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Open the Manage bank statements app.
- Create a new bank statement.
- Add items to bank statements using the manual transaction codes or external transaction codes with interpretation algorithm 001 - Standard Algorithm.
- Post the bank statement.
Cause
The issue arises due to the presence of special characters in the memo line. The standard interpretation algorithm 001 processes only alphanumeric characters and does not handle special characters.
Resolution
For handling special characters, SAP offers two options:
- Use the interpretation algorithm 421 - Reference Document No. Search with Special Characters for handling special characters.
- Alternatively, use the processing instruction 011 while reprocessing the bank statement items in the app Reprocess Bank Statement Items or through processing rules.
To implement either of these solutions, follow below options:
- Create an external transaction code with interpretation algorithm 421 assigned to it.
- Or select the processing instruction 011 while reprocessing the bank statement item in the app Reprocess Bank Statement Items.
- Or create a processing rule for bank statements with processing instruction 011, automate it or manually apply to the bank statement item.
