3555400 - Member Determination For Target Groups Does Not Work with 'Relationship' Extension Field

Symptom

You have added a KUT extension field under the "Relationship" facet in Contacts or Accounts with the following Extension Scenario:
  • Contact – General Information to Target Group – Contact Selection
  • Business Partner Relationship – General Information to Target Group – Target Group Selection Conditions for Account Contact
When using this extension field to determine members for a Target Group, it does not work correctly.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create a KUT field of type List (drop-down) on Contacts or Accounts.
  2. Enable the Extension Scenario: Business Partner Relationship – General Information to Target Group – Target Group Selection Conditions for Account Contact.
  3. In the Target Group, the field appears under Business Context "Selection Condition for Account Contacts" 
  4. Add the List-type field as a filter condition in Target Group member determination.
  5. Result: The filter does not return expected members or is not evaluated.

Cause

  • Advanced Search runs in the UI context — it can resolve List-type code values in real time because it has access to the value help/code list framework during the search.
  • Member Determination runs as a background process — it evaluates conditions against stored data without the UI framework.
  • To resolve a List-type field, Member Determination needs to join to the code list/Business Partner master data to match the selected value — it cannot perform that join in the background processing context when the field comes through the "Business Partner Relationship" path.

Resolution

This is a current system limitation. KUT fields created at the header of the Contact/Account object and extended via "Business Partner Relationship – General Information to Target Group – Target Group Selection Conditions for Account Contact" can be used in Advanced Search but do not work in Member Determination. 
Since the only available Business Context for this Target Group scenario is "Selection Condition for Account Contacts," there is no alternative extension path to enable fields for Member Determination in this context.
