3555735 - Not possible to add a Variant product as subitem of a Variant Product

When attempting to add a Variant Product as Sub Item of another Variant Product an Error is thrown, not allowing to add the item as subitem.

SAP SALES CLOUD CPQ integrated with SAP Variant Configuration

1. Create a Quote
2. Add a Variant Product to it
3. Run folliowing code:
   1. item = context.Quote.GetItemByItemNumber(1)
      prod = ProductHelper.CreateProduct({SubItem_ID})
      item.AsMainItem.AddSubItem(prod,1)
4. A Fatal is thrown in developer console and event log.
