3558129 - Unable to Link Contact Person as Partner Function in Manage Business Partner Master Data App

Symptom

  • In the Manage Business Partner Master Data app, the number displayed under Contacts refers to the Business Partner number of the contact person. However, when trying to assign this contact as a partner function in the sales area data, searching by the contact person number shown on the contact screen does not return any results. 
  • Error message: "Customer xxxx : Contact person with partner number ABC does not exist" appears when attempting to assign the contact person as a partner function. 

           Where xxxx represents Business partner number and ABC represents Contact Business partner number

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Manage Business Partner Master Data app
  2. Open the Business Partner 'xxxx' 
  3. Identify contact with contact BP number 'ABC'
  4. Select the role as customer
  5. Navigate to sales and distribution
  6. Go to the partner functions tab
  7. Create the partner function as CP and assign BP number 'ABC'

Cause

The issue arises when the contact person BP number is entered instead of the contact person number while assigning the contact as a partner function in the sales area data.

Resolution

  • Ensure that the contact person number is entered instead of the contact person BP number while assigning the contact as a partner function.
  • If using the Manage Business Partner Master Data or other Fiori apps, search with the contact person name.
  • To maintain partner function CP in Maintain Business partner app, it is recommended to use value help. This way the correct contact person can be determined by entering the customer/BP number.
