3566028 - Could not allocate memory using HugePages after Linux upgrade - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • After an OS version upgrade
    • or applying an OS Service Pack (SP) or patch
  • ASE can no longer use HugePages and returns message:

    Could not allocate memory using Huge Pages. Allocated using regular pages. For better performance, reboot the server after configuring enough Huge Pages.

  • Before upgrade ASE was using HugePages:

    Allocated memory using Huge pages.

  • Capturing strace output shows HugePages allocation fails due to :

    EPERM (Operation not permitted)
