Symptom
- An issue is encountered with storage space usage and reclamation in SAP S/4HANA.
- After reducing size of table by deleting old entries, the expected amount of space is not being reclaimed.
- Specifically, millions of records have been deleted from a table, which initially contained multiple TB of data, but only small portion of space available on disk has been reclaimed.
- A service is running on the server to validate archived files and based on that validation, files are deleted from the tables. However, the space reclamation is not happening as expected.
- Database analysis command SQL: "HANA_Disks_Data_Overview" (SAP Note 1969700) shows used space data on disk under the designation 'OTHER_DB' proportionally very high.
- Data backup takes long time 1-2 days due to size of data persistence.
