3569503 - Objects marked as hidden in an ODE story via scripting or in the object editor may still show in story

Symptom

  • An object is set to hidden in the left side panel in an ODE story
  • When the story is open in view mode the object may still be visible

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud, all versions

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create an ODE story
  2. Add any object type to the story
  3. In the left panel, select the "eye" icon to set the object to hidden
  4. Add a table to the page
  5. On the right-hand side "builder" panel for the table set the option "Auto-size and page table vertically" as active
  6. Save the story and open it in view mode
  7. In some cases the hidden object will still be visible

Cause

This is an expected limitation of the product, though it may not be obvious that these two features are linked.

As stated in the online help: https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_ANALYTICS_CLOUD/00f68c2e08b941f081002fd3691d86a7/aec5cc40459f4466adc9b6f0ccde4805.html

When Auto-Size and Page Table Vertically is enabled, all the widgets on the page become visible, whether they are set to hidden at design time or via scripting.

Resolution

As this is a current limitation of the product, if you wish to be able to hide objects in your story you will need to de-activate the Auto-size option.
