3570869 - Display name showing as "Purged User" for users that were reactivated after purge

• The display names of users who were purged and later reactivated are appearing as "Purged User" instead of reflecting their configured display names.
• When searching for a reactivated user, the result shows "Purged User" instead of the correct display name.
• How can we update the "Purged User" value to display the correct display name for users who were reactivated after being purged?

1. Purge a user through DRTM Master Data Purge.
2. Reactivate the same user following the steps outlined in KBA 2392094.
3. When searching for this user, observe that the Display Name is showing as "Purged User" instead of the Display Name Configuration:
   
   Or, export the User Data File and observe that the user has "Purged User" under the Display Name column: 
   

When you reactivate a purged user through the import process outlined in KBA 2392094 and don't maintain the Display Name column and desired value in the import file, Display Name is populated with the "Purged User" value.

• If the affected user is an EC user, go to Company System and Logo Settings and click on Refresh General Display Name. The Refresh General Display Name will trigger an HRIS Sync and once the job is completed you can verify the Display Name of the affected user. For more information about Refresh General Display Name, please refer to Refreshing General Display Name Help Guide. 
• If the affected user is not an EC user, you can update the Display Name through the Import and Employee Data tool > Basic Import. For non EC users the Display Name can also be maintained in the import file during the process of reactivating the purged user. 

Important Note: For Employee Central customers, it is not recommended to update the Display Name field via data import, as these changes will be overwritten by HRIS Sync or when the general display name is refreshed. For more information, refer SAP Help Guide Configuring General Display Name

How to verify if a user is an EC user or is not an EC user?

1. Got to Data Inspector
2. Select Table_EMP_EMPLOYMENT_INFO from the Entity dropdown
3. Click on Add Field Criteria and inform User Sys ID + Equals + affected User ID and click on Show Data
4. If the value under "Is EC Record" is 0, the affected user is not an EC user. If the value is 1, then the affected user is an EC user. 

Resolution Steps

Step 1 — Confirm EC User Status

• Navigate to Data Inspector → Entity: Table_EMP_EMPLOYMENT_INFO
• Add filter: User Sys ID = <affected User ID>
• Confirm Is EC Record = 1 (already confirmed in your case) KBA [3570869 - ] [3058601] 

Step 2 — Check User Status in Data Inspector

• Navigate to Data Inspector → Entity: Table_USERS_SYSINFO
• Add filter: User Sys ID = <affected User ID>
• Review the Valid column: 
  • f = Inactive (expected for a future-dated record)
  • x = Purged (if still showing this, the purge marker has not been cleared) [3375924 - How To check User Status Via Data inspector ]

Step 3 — Trigger Refresh General Display Name (Primary Fix for EC Users)

• Navigate to Admin Center → Company System and Logo Settings
• Click "Refresh General Display Name"
• This triggers an HRIS Sync; once the job completes, verify the Display Name of the affected user KBA [3570869 ] 

Important: For EC users (Is EC Record = 1), it is not recommended to update the Display Name field via data import, as these changes will be overwritten by HRIS Sync or when the General Display Name is refreshed. [1]

Step 4 — Request Search Re-Indexing (if display name still shows "Purged User" in search)

• If the user is still searchable as "Purged User" or "Anonymous Anonymous" in Employee Profile search after Step 3, the issue is likely a stale search index
• Raise an SAP Support incident under component LOD-SF-PLT to request re-indexing of the search index KBA [3058601] 

Step 5 — Verify Login Account Integrity

• Navigate to Admin Center → Manage Login Accounts
• Search for the affected User ID
• Confirm the Login Name is correctly associated with the new User ID and not carrying over values from the purged record [3592242 -Re-activate a hard purged user with the same User ID via Employee Import gets failed! ]

Step 6 — Check for Orphan Person/Employment Data (if re-indexing does not resolve)

• Navigate to Admin Center → Check Tool
• Run: User Management → Each employee's person data is correctly associated with corresponding employment data (OrphanPersonGOs)
• If orphan data is found, perform a Quick Fix
• After the Quick Fix, re-validate the display name
