Symptom
Work Permit Information, an onView business rule is expected to default the Country field when opening a new Work Permit record. However, the rule does not work as expected—the Country field remains blank.
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central
Reproducing the Issue
- Create an onView business rule on the WorkPermit portlet to default the Country field to a specific value (e.g., "USA" or "Australia").
- Assign the business rule to the HRIS element WorkPermit in BCUI.
- Open the Work Permit portlet to add a new record.
- Observe that the Country field remains blank instead of defaulting to the configured value.
Cause
This behavior is due to a limitation in the current framework for Legacy People Profile . The onView rule only works when an existing record is present. When adding a new record, there is no existing country value, preventing the rule from defaulting the field.
Resolution
- The behavior where the
onView
business rule does not execute as expected when adding a new Work Permit record is a known limitation within the current Legacy People Profile framework. This limitation is planned to be resolved in the upcoming Latest People Profile Edit UI, which is expected to be released in a future update. - At this time, there is no immediate alternative available within Legacy People Profile until the Latest People Profile Edit UI is released. This issue is being closely monitored, and updates will be provided as soon as new information becomes available.
