Symptom
- In the Material Cost Estimates - Cost Breakdown (Item Type) report, the valuation quantity is not displayed correctly if an input material is used more than once in a material cost estimate.
- The report only displays the highest quantity among the multiple instances of the same material, instead of the total valuation quantity.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to Inventory Valuation work center -Reports view and open the Material Cost Estimates - Cost Breakdown (Item Type) report.
- Enter the mandatory details, such as Company ID, Set of Books ID, Key Date as well as Material ABC (ABC represents an output material ID).
- You notice that the valuation quantity of input material XYZ appears too low, for example 2 ea instead of 3 ea (XYZ represents an input material ID).
Cause
- The Material Cost Estimates - Cost Breakdown (Item Type) report derives its data from generated material cost estimates.
- In the material cost estimate of the output product ABC, there are more than items for material XYZ listed, for example, one item with valuation quantity 2 ea and one with valuation quantity 1 ea.
- The report is not able to display different valuation quantities for the same material used multiple times in a material cost estimate. Instead, it displays the highest quantity among the multiple instances of the same material, here 2 ea (not 2 ea + 1 ea).
Resolution
- The material cost estimate derives its valuation quantities from the output materials Bill of material (BOM).
- We recommend to use a material only once in a BOM with the total quantity (here 3 ea) rather than several times.
