3575784 - Workflow Rule for Employee Business Object Fails to Trigger Notifications

Symptom

Changes made in Personnel Administration do not trigger notifications as per the configured Workflow Rule for Employee business object

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

Navigate to the Application and User Management Work center
Access Workflow Rules view
Create a workflow rule to trigger notifications for changes in the Employee business object

Then:

Navigate to the Personnel Administration Work center
Make changes under Regular Tasks/Employees
Observe that the configured workflow rule does not trigger any notifications

Cause

This is an expected system behavior.

Resolution

Navigate to Home Work center
Access Self-Services Overview view
Navigate to Personal Information
Select Edit Biographical Data/Edit Private Contact Data
Notice that the Workflow Rule for Employee Business Object is triggering notifications.

Note:

Workflow rules for Employee Transfer and Employee Termination successfully trigger notifications within Personnel Administration under Employees (e.g., Transfer Employee, Terminate Relationship)
Hiring workflows with the timing set to "On Create Only" will not work, as the 'Employee Hiring' business object is not available in workflow rules. Hiring is processed through Personnel Administration tasks, triggering BTM tasks independently of workflow rules.
Workflow rule notifications are available in the Inbox within the Home Work center. This can also be accessed in Business Task Management under All Items within Application & User Management.
Task subscriptions enable email notifications for Business Task Management items.
