3576469 - Error message 'Cost center &1 has different profit centers; therefore it cannot be used' appeared in manage fixed assets app - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

 Error message 'Cost center &1 has different profit centers; therefore it cannot be used' appeared when creating a fixed asset and filling out the cost center field in manage fixed assets app.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Open manage fixed assets app

2. Select company code and asset class

3. Fill out the mandatory field and cost center.

4. Save and the error message appeared.

The restriction that "Fixed Asset couldn't use Cost Centers which have multiple different Profit Centers" is a designed behavior which was delivered on S/4HANA Cloud Edition since CE2105.

The purpose of this restriction is to make sure the balance sheet fields (Profit Center & Segment) on Fixed Asset are consistent with those fields on Cost Center without any confusion, so that postings on Fixed Asset are correctly recorded on expected balance sheet fields.

What would happen if this restriction is removed? 
Because both Fixed Asset and Cost Center have their own time intervals and the time intervals may differ with each other, it would become possible that, at some point of time, the Profit Center on Fixed Asset is different with the Profit Center on the Fixed Asset's Cost Center, and as a consequence, posting against the Fixed Asset would be recorded on inconsistent balance sheet fields.

To avoid such inconsistency in posting, Asset Accounting and Controlling agreed to add following restrictions in app Manage Fixed Assets and app Manage Cost Centers respectively:

1) From Asset Accounting side, Fixed Asset couldn't use Cost Centers which have multiple different Profit Centers;

2) From CO side, once it is being used in Fixed Asset, the Cost Center cannot change its existing Profit Center assignment, and also the Cost Center cannot add a new time interval with different Profit Center. 

These restrictions couldn't be switched off. Current alternative is to create different Cost Centers for different Profit Centers, and then such Cost Centers can be used in Fixed Asset.
