Symptom

Performing ABAP system update/upgrade with Software Update Manager (SUM) stops with an error in phase PREP_INIT/CHECKPROF_INI.

Instance profile parameter 'DIR_CT_RUN' points to '\\<server>\sapmnt\<SID>\SYS\exe\uc\NTAMD64' with is not a directory or not read/writable!
