3580744 - Compatibility Guidance for Using Optimized Story Experience with SAP BW Live Data

Symptom

  • SAP recommends that customers regularly check and update their BW system with the quarterly cumulative BW patch list, please see refer to this blog post for more details: https://community.sap.com/t5/technology-blogs-by-sap/ensure-smooth-and-efficient-integration-of-sap-analytics-cloud-by-keeping/ba-p/13870564

  • BW InA patches for Classic Stories have been implemented as a prerequisite, see 2715030 - Considerations when using SAP BW and SAP S/4HANA Live Connections in SAC.

  • Lacking the necessary BW InA patches before migrating to, or implementing new Stories can lead to Optimized Stories that are persisted in a incorrect state and require the customer’s Story Designer modify the widgets in the Story to recover, see SAP Notes marked with (*)
    • The recovery of a widget involves removing and re-adding measure and/or reconfiguring dimension hierarchy and level settings in the Chart bindings to get it into the correct state.

  • Many of these BW InA patches enable performance improvements (BW Persisted InA, AutoSubmit, etc) that are exclusive to Optimized Stories.

  • The list below contains common issues, however, it is not an exhaustive list of all known fixes for SAC with BW live. Regularly checking and implementing/updating BW patches is considered as mandatory and preferred for customers using Optimized Stories: 2541557 - SAP Analytics Cloud with BW live connection - How to keep the BW system in sync with SAC - Which BW support package is recommended?

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise) 
  • Live Data Connection to On-premise data sources:
    • SAP BW 
    • SAP S/4HANA 
    • SAP BW/4HANA 

Cause

Missing mandatory SAP Notes/Patches can cause Optimized Stories to not function properly.

Resolution

In order to verify the relevant notes in your BW system, you can use the Note Analyzer by following the instructions written here:

To ensure a smooth Optimized Story experience for stories with BW live connections, you need to apply the following patches:
