3581632 - Week Date Dimension Dynamic Filter is not working after Story Conversion from Classic to Optimized Mode in SAC

Symptom

  • The Week Date Dimension Dynamic Filter is not working after converting a story from Classic to Optimized Mode in SAP Analytics Cloud.
  • The issue does not occur in the Classic Design Experience.
  • The Optimized story does not recognize Dynamic filter created on top of Week Dimension and all widgets are appearing blank due to this with a error message "failed to fetch data"

Environment

SAC Analytics Cloud 2025.1.6

Reproducing the Issue

Import Connection from BW.

  1. Log into SAC
  2. Go to files > Open Classic Story >  (note that every widget is working properly)
  3. Go to files > Open converted story (ODE) > (note that the widgets are not working and a error message is being displayed: 'failed to fetch data')
    1. Also, when forcing the date range filter, an error message is displayed: "SQL ERROR: Error in Value Lookup for the variable: xxx. For more details, see SQL Exception"

Cause

The error in the optimized story is due to a new feature that's implemented for optimized stories that are not available in classic stories - Flexible Time (https://community.sap.com/t5/technology-blogs-by-sap/introducing-flexible-time-in-sap-analytics-cloud/ba-p/13528946). The problem is that the dimension does not have a current date row that needs to be populated.

There is an error from the backend that indicates this:

  • "No valid date can be found in masterdata for current date. All masterdata entries are in the past of the current date. Please extend your masterdata to the future."

Also, it seems the dimension is missing a lot of data which could result in data correctness issues. The Date column has lots of gaps. For example, there is no 2025-03-11.

For the Flexible Time feature to work properly, gaps are not allowed in the Date column.

Resolution

As a workaround, the custom date feature can be applied to create a custom date that the range filters can use.

  1. Click on 'edit filter' > it will open the Range Dialog
  2. Under 'Current Date' there will be a dropdown where a Current Date Input Control can be created. Creating one for the desired week will allow using the range filter again like in the classic stack.
