• An error message is encountered when attempting to change the external code of a picklist value in SAP SuccessFactors.
• The error message states: "Changing external code to [external code] for PicklistValue is not allowed. In case you need to change the external code, please delete this row and add a new one."

• SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite
• SAP SuccessFactors Metadata Framework (MDF)

1. Login to SuccessFactors instance
2. Navigate to Picklist Center
3. Search for the relevant picklist
4. Search for the picklist value to edit the external code
5. Attempt to change the external code.
6. Get the error.

There is already a picklist value in the picklist with that same external code.

If the same code already exists (even if the value is Inactive) you will see this error appear.

Rename the existing external code to a different one first, and then after it is changed, you will be able to change the external code of the value you are trying to rename.
