3583637 - Data truncated with "String or binary data would be truncated" after increase of column length for an attribute in items.xml

Symptom

When executing an SQL insert or update query for a table's attribute following message gets thrown:

An error occurred while attempting to save entries for entityType: NAME_OF_ATTRIBUTE with error message org.springframework.dao.DataIntegrityViolationException: query; SQL []; String or binary data would be truncated.; nested exception is com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: String or binary data would be truncated.

The increase for the attribute's column length has been applied in the attribute's items.xml definition for the table of the corresponding extension. A system update has been performed after applying the change. The modified value of an entity for this attribute, which is supposed to be updated or inserted in the table is less or equal than the newly determined length of the attribute's column in items.xml, but still the exception is being thrown and the data is not saved on the database properly, in its full lenght.
