3583724 - Negative Open Quantity in Production Order Display in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

In the production order display, the open quantity is shown as negative

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the production order display for order number XYZ
  2. Observe the open quantity and Short/Exc. fields, the quantity is showing negative value

Here XYZ refers to a production order

Cause

The Expected Yield Deviation specifies whether a yield variance is to be expected when the finished product is delivered to stock, as the result of confirmations that have already been entered. An expected yield deficit is displayed as a negative value, an expected yield increment is displayed as a positive value. In this case, a yield deficit occurs during the final confirmation of operations, as a yield quantity is confirmed that is smaller than the planned order quantity.

Resolution

This is a standard behavior of the system. The negative value in the open quantity field indicates an expected yield deficit since there might be a possibility that initially during confirmation +ve quantity were taken into consideration and later it was changed  due to which it is showing a difference in open quantity
