3587648 - "403 forbidden - certificate required" message while accessing the system through HTTPS

Symptom

The error message "403 forbidden - certificate required" is received (in the web browser) while accessing an SAP ABAP based system through HTTPS.

The value of the parameter "icm/verify_client" (or from the VCLIENT option of the corresponding "icm/server_port_X" parameter) is 1 (which is the default value).
